Tennis District Tournament 2019

Emily Hogue

With the District Tournament coming to a close, the 2019 tennis season has ended. It was a great season for the Yellow Jackets. The team started at the very beginning of summer with practices twice (if not more) a week, along with going to participate at Little Rock camp, where the Jackets got one on one work with a professional tennis player, Aaron Hudson. The tennis team worked hard all summer long, and even harder during the normal season. Many of the athletes worked on their own so they could perform better for the team.
Four lucky CHS Tennis athletes placed high enough in District to represent Clinton High in the State Tournament, located at Burns Park in Little Rock. The following players are eligible to play: Senior Emma Coward (who won second in district overall in girls singles), junior Ryan Webb (third in boys singles), and sophomores Sophia Cabana and Erika Sykes (third in girls doubles). We congratulate and wish them good luck for the state tournament.
District this year was held at Fairfield Bay, the home turf for the Clinton Yellow Jackets tennis team. Even after difficult events, like Jasper Burgess breaking his hand which caused the doubles boys teams getting switched up, all of the players supported their teammates and fought like a Yellow Jacket. The district tournament was also sponsored by the booster club, having Phillip Jones, the Booster Club Athletic President, to come and set up concessions for all the teams participating. The tennis team would like to thank Phillip Jones and Principal Smith for coming and supporting the tennis team! We also want to recognize and say goodbye to our seniors Emma Coward, Reid Hensley, and Emily Hogue as well as GOOD LUCK to the rest of the tennis team in the next years to come!
