Save the Turtles!

As trendy as the saying “save the turtles!” is, it’s more important to act out that trend than to just speak it. Sea turtles are one of the oldest animal species to still exist. However, due to unfortunate odds, 6 out of the 7 sea turtle species are almost extinct. There are many different factors that contribute to the rapid decline of turtle species.

When sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand and the baby turtles hatch, they follow the natural light of the horizon; but with hotels and street lights, it confuses the turtles which doesn’t end well. As well as the confusion, they are preyed on by hawks and other predators. Once the lucky sea turtles reach the ocean, they still face many hardships. Due to the lack of care, many people throw away non biodegradable items that end up in our oceans and marine animals’ stomachs. Items such as straws, plastic bags, and other materials can and will injure as well as kill these animals. As sad as this sounds, it’s the brutal truth. So, grab your reusable straws, and let’s save those turtles!
