CHS Jacket Basketball Update

The Clinton Yellowjackets are currently 16-6 and will head into the district tournament as the 2 seed when that time comes around.

To start the season off the Jackets were short handed, and were handed two blowout losses in the First Service Bank Classic Tournament to 4A power house Pottsville (67-38) and 3A rival Valley Springs (60-36). The Jackets were 2-3 when the football players arrived, and had scored 242 total points in the span of 5 games. Since the arrival of senior starters Keaton Gresham and Ryley Mcdonald, the Jackets went on a scoring spree and scored 623 points in 12 games.

After football’s loss in the playoffs, the multi-sport athletes McDonald and Gresham instantly sparked the Yellowjackets who then won 4 straight games before losing to undefeated Valley Springs at home by a score of 49-45. The Jackets went into Christmas break winning 8 of their last 9 games.

The Clinton senior boys went on a two game winning streak after an embarrassing loss coming back from Christmas break to sub-par Lamar 49-47.

Inclement weather caused the Marshall game to be rescheduled which put the Jackets to playing 3 games in one week.  The Yellowjackets went on the road to defeat Marshall in the rescheduled game. They faced Mountain View at home and defeated the conference opponent.  Then came a big road game at Valley Springs. The Jackets played hard, but fell to Valley Springs in the last minutes of the fourth quarter. Defeating Valley Springs put them in second place for Conference. Valley Springs suffered its second loss on the season against third seed Bergman.

The next week the team played Rose Bud and Bergman. The Jackets defeated Rosebud to stay in second place, 1 game behind Valley Springs. The Clinton boys defeated Bergman 55-50 on the road in a shootout. It was the first home loss of the year for the Bergman Panthers. Not even the No. 1 seeded Valley Springs could succeed against Bergman at home. The Jackets hold their lonely spot at No. 2 with one more conference game against No. 6 Green Forest.

At the moment the rankings are set as Valley Springs at first, Clinton at second, Bergman at third, Marshall at fourth, Mountain View at fifth, Green Forest at sixth, and Rose Bud at seventh.

In the final game of January, the senior boys basketball team traveled to Greers Ferry West Side and won in dramatic fashion. The Jackets defeated the 1a Eagles(15-16)  by a score of 57-54. The Jackets played horrible throughout the game, but found a way to win in the end. With 8 seconds left, and the game tied at 54-54, Junior Kragen Bradley chunked up a last second shot from behind the arc that banked in for the win! Bradley scored 5 straight to end the game and help the Jackets win.
