Jacket Baseball Dominating the Competition
Tuesday, April 10th Clinton played their rival the Dover Pirates in a conference doubleheader at home. Senior Ty Johnson started on the mound vs the Pirates. He was locked and loaded, striking out two of the first three batters. Then Clinton got the bats started hot. Senior Bryce Dodd led off the bottom of the first with a single. Then advanced to second on an error by the shortstop on a ball hit by Johnson. Then junior Aaron Hogue hit a ground ball to the shortstop and on the process to turn a double play the ball was thrown into right field scoring Dodd from second. Clinton scored 9 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Clinton continued to add runs on scoring 3 in the second inning. 2 in the third inning and 7 in the fourth inning. Clinton run ruled Dover 21-1 in 5 innings. Ty Johnson was lights out on the mound throwing a complete game no hitter with 10 strikeouts. Only run scoring on a passed ball. This improved Johnson’s record to 4-1 on the season, and improved Clinton’s record to 13-2 on the season.
Sophomore Kragen Bradley got the start on the mound in the second game of the double header vs the Dover Pirates. Bradley much like Johnson was shut down on the bump. Dover scored one run in the first unearned. Then Clinton came to the plate. Bryce Dodd led off the inning with a triple into the left center gap. Then Aaron Hogue drove Dodd in with a one out double down the third baseline. Then Junior Ryley McDonald scored Hogue from second with a single into left center. Clinton scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning taking the lead over Dover 4-1. Bradley threw up a 0 in the top of the second inning getting the Yellowjackets back into the dugout. Clinton scored 7 runs in the bottom of the second inning. 4 of the 7 runs came off a grand slam home run from senior Stiles Booher his third home run of the season. Clinton scored 3 in the bottom of the third inning and 2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Keaton Gresham came in to slam the door shut. Gresham pitched one inning gave up no runs on no hits. Clinton defeated Dover 16-1. Kragen Bradley was the winning pitcher throwing 4 innings allowing no hits and striking out 6. This improved Bradley’s Record to 3-1 on the season. This made the Yellowjackets 14-2 on the season.
Thursday, April 12th the Clinton baseball team traveled to Perryville for an away conference doubleheader. Clinton was held scoreless in their first at bat against the Mustangs. Senior Bryce Dodd started on the mound for the Yellowjackets and he was on. Top of the second inning Junior Ryley McDonald got the offense started with a lead off homerun his second of the year. Then later that same inning Bryce Dodd roped a homerun the second of the inning his second of the year. Then the very next at bat Senior Ty Johnson hit a line shot over the fence his first of the year. Clinton scored 8 runs in the top of the second hitting 3 home runs. Dodd threw up another zero on the mound for the Yellowjackets in the bottom of the second. Senior Jacob West led off the top of the third with a double. After that Sophomore Kragen Bradley reached on an error by the second baseman. Then up came Bryce Dodd and he roped his second homerun of the game third on the season. Then later that same inning Ryley McDonald came up to the plate and hit his second home run of the game his third on the season. Clinton scored 5 runs in the top of the third. Perryville then scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning. Making the score 13-1. Top of the fourth inning Sophomore Jayden Exzabe lead off with a single. Then Bradley walked bringing up lead off hitter Dodd who already had 2 home runs. Dodd then smashed a ball back back gone for his third home run of the game a 3 run shot his fourth home run of the season. Clinton scored three runs in the top of the fourth. Dodd then held the Mustangs to zero runs again in the bottom of the fourth. The score being 16-1 the top of the line up switched to the opposite side for their at bat in the fifth. Dodd came up to the plate and being led off got around the lefthanded side being the opposite for the right handed Dodd. Dodd then roped a laser into the trees in right field his fourth home run of the game from the left side yes four home runs in one game. This was Dodd’s team leading fifth homerun of the season. Dodd was the winning pitcher on the mound throwing a complete game allowing 1 run and striking out 8. This improved Dodds record to 3-0 on the season. Senior Bryce Dodd went 5-5 with 4 home runs and a double with 12 RBIs. Clinton Defeated Perryville 19-1. This makes Clinton 15-2 on the season.
Junior Aaron Hogue got the start on the mound in the second game of the double header vs Perryville. Bryce Dodd was hit by a pitch in his first at bat of the game. Then Ty Johnson walked. This brought up Aaron Hoge to the plate. Hogue hit a three run homerun to right center his 3rd of the season. Clinton scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning. Clinton had a few errors in the bottom of the first allowing Perryville to score 3. Perryville shutdown Clinton in the top of the second inning, but Hogue did the same thing and shutdown Perryville in the bottom of the second. The score was Clinton 4 Perryville 3 after 2 innings. Ryley McDonald led off the top of the third with a double. Then back to back walks to Senior Avery Bramlett and Sophomore Jayden Exzabe loaded the bases. After that Senior Jacob West was hit by a pitch scoring a run. Then Sophomore Kragen Bradley was struck by a pitch also scoring a run. Then Dodd walked scoring a run. Johnson hit a single scoring a run. Hogue roped a bases clearing triple. Then McDonald hit a single scoring Hogue. Clinton scored 10 runs in the top of the third making the score 14-3. Hogue in the bottom of the third struck out the side allowing no runs. Clinton was held scoreless in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Keaton Gresham came in to throw in the bottom of the fourth. Gresham threw also in the fifth inning. Bryce Dodd came in to close the game and struck out the side. Clinton defeated Perryville 19-9 in six innings. Hogue was the winning pitcher improving his record to 5-0 on the season.
The Clinton Yellowjackets are 16-2 on the season and 9-1 in conference. The Yellowjackets are currently ranked 2 in the state for 3A and 16 overall 1A-7A. Clinton’s last home game for the season will be Friday, April 20th vs the Dardanelle Sand Lizards.
