C.G. Bolden Day

Cpl. C.G. Bolden Day, not only is it a day of remembering one of Clinton’s own people, but it is to remind all of us that freedom is never free that it comes at a terrible cost. Cpl. Bolden, a Clinton, Arkansas man enlisted in the army at the age of 23 was sent to fight in Korea where he was captured and died in a North Korean POW camp. Then 63 years later in 2015 Cpl Bolden was brought home, and laid to rest here in his home town of Clinton. February 19 has been declared Cpl. C.G. Bolden day where this day is to always remind us that our freedoms are not free, but freely given to us, by the selfless few. This year Clinton High School hosted the ceremony that was attended by Clinton Junior High, Clinton High School, South Side High School, Shirley High School, and local members of the community.  The keynote speaker was Fred Hilsenrath, a survivor of World War II.  He told students of his journey as a young boy in Germany during World War II.  Students also heard other local community members:  Mayor Richard Mccormac, Mayor Paul Wellenberger, and Judge Roger Hooper.  The ceremony closed with a Folding of the Flag by members of Boy Scout Troop 152, Cody Bagley and Caleb Kirkpatrick.
