Week 10: Clinton Yellowjackets VS Mountain View Yellowjackets
Friday, November 4th, was a game for the ages. Picked as the Hooten’s High School game of the week, and a conference title and playoff seed on the line, Clinton did not disappoint or step down. By defeating Mt. View in a 34-32 fashion they share the conference title and go into playoffs as a 3rd seed.
The first two drives, one by Mt. View and one by Clinton, were both stuffed and ended in a punt. On the ensuing drive, Mountain View scored on a trick play pass, but the 2-pt conversion was unsuccessful leaving the score 6-0. Clinton came back with an answer on the very next drive with a 5-yd touchdown pass from Kort Weaver to Wyatt McCoy. Johnathan Ochoa scored a point after the touchdown to make the score 7-6 early in the second quarter.
Mountain View turned around and scored quick with 3:13 left in the half but once again Clinton held them out of the endzone on the 2-pt conversion make it 12-7, Mountain View at the half.
Our boys decided they wanted the momentum going into the locker room and they did just that. Two big runs, one by Kort Weaver and the other by Wyatt McCoy, helped Clinton hit hard in Mt. View territory. Then on a critical 4th down and 4, Kort Weaver throws a prayer to Jake Ferrell, who makes an impossible catch to keep the drive alive. Three plays later, Kort Weaver broke through the pile and scored to give Clinton the 13-12 lead at the half.
First kickoff of the second half was taken by CHS, the drive looked to be stopped early; but once again on 4th and 4, an undeniable Kort Weaver to Jake Ferrell connection for a 41 yard touchdown play occurred. The point after the touchdown by Ochoa was good, making the score 20-12 in favor of Clinton. Just as quick as Clinton gained the momentum, it was taken away from them. Mt. View had an offensive drive ending with a touchdown and 2-pt conversion to tie the game. To make matters worse, Mt. View recovered the next kickoff and scored again giving them a 26-20 lead.
Clinton’s next drive stalled, but our boys defense held out forcing Mt. View to punt and setting up Clinton in great field position at the Mt. View 34-yd line. Then Kort Weaver and his offense went to work wasting no time at all picking up 20 yards on a pass to Bradley Amos putting the Jackets in the redzone. Then Kort Weaver picked up the needed yardage on 4th down to keep the drive alive at the 5 yard line. After 3 negative plays, Kort Weaver found Charlie Sowell in the back of the endzone for a touchdown and a kick from Ochoa gave Clinton a 27-26 lead. But Mt. View came back with a quick answer taking a 32-27 lead with 7:11 left in the game.
Clinton came in clutch one last time on a game-winning touchdown drive with two big completions to Jake Ferrell and Bradley Amos. There was then a touchdown run by none other than Kort Weaver and a kick by Ochoa to make the lead 34-32. Clinton’s defense held out keeping Mt. View out of the endzone to win the game for a great come from behind win.
The Clinton Yellowjackets take on the Centerpoint Knights at their field this Friday for their first playoff game. Please come out to support our boys and help us win. They appreciate all of the support!
