3A Update Week 9

1-3A No. 1 Booneville at No. 12 Lamar

Both 3a powerhouses enter this game undefeated. What is at stake? The winner claims the 1-3A conference title, and home field advantage until the quarterfinals. Both teams have incredible defenses and predominantly run the ball on offense. Lamar has everything to gain this Friday night, and are putting it all on the line. If all goes as planned the winner will play No. 2 seed Harding Academy in the second round of the playoffs.

2-3A No. 34 Mountain View at No. 37 Yellville-Summit

Mountain View lost last week at Melbourne, but currently holds the No. 4 playoff spot. Senior QB Gunner Willis, and tight end Sam Treat run the offense for the Jackets, scoring 30 points per game in league play. For Yellville to make the playoffs they will likely have to win its final two games to earn the 4 seed. Yellville final game of the season is against Marshall.

3-3A No. 25 Harrisburg at No. 20 Hoxie

Harrisburg needs to win to make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Both teams mirror stats offensively. If Hoxie wins, that will guarantee them a playoff spot. Hoxie, coming off a blowout win verses Manila 50-12, should have some moment to carry them to victory. They are led by 3-year starter QB Chandler Spradlin.

4-3A No. 16 Atkins at No. 6 Glen Rose

Atkins has lost the past two conference games with a combined of 78-13 against Danville and Mayflower. Glen Rose is on the run for another conference title. Atkins lost to Mayflower 52-6 and Glen Rose slaughtered Mayflower 40-14. Atkins committed four turnovers last week against Mayflower.

5-3A No. 5 Prescott at No. 10 C. Harmony Grove

The winner still has a chance at sharing the league title with Smackover, and would at minimum hold the No. 2 playoff seed. C. Harmony Grove is on a 7 game win-streak, and are allowing just 6.8 points in league play.

6-3A No. 9 Rison at No. 22 Barton

These teams are a combined 7-1 in league play. Barton, with a win could share the conference title with unbeaten Rison.  Rison clinches a share of the 6-3A title (first league title since 2015) and the No. 1 playoff seed with a victory. The all-time Rison vs. Barton series is tied 3-3 with the teams splitting a pair of Class A state finals. Rison’s 27-20 win over Barton in 1990 snapped the Bears’ 63-game winning streak. Barton held Rison to 175 yards in a 28-21 conquest for the 1994 state crown.
