3A Update Week 8

1-3A No. 18 Charleston at No. 1 Booneville

This game is a huge rivalry game that is very important for playoff seeding. Charleston likely needs to win out to have a first-round home playoff game. Their last three games are unbeaten Booneville, winless Paris, and undefeated Lamar. Booneville’s postseason will be decided this week and next Friday when it travels to Lamar. Charleston shutout winless Paris 50-0 last week, holding the Eagles to 101 total yards. Booneville’s offense continues to gain confidence weekly since losing senior all-state QB Brandon Ulmer (knee).

2-3A 2A Strong at No. 3 Clinton (@LR Christian)

A non-conference game scheduled when Rose Bud and Woodlawn cancelled their seasons. Six Clinton Yellowjackets scored touchdowns last week in a 43-6 conquest over Yellville-Summit, including rushing and receiving scores from senior Sky Davidson. The game will be held at Little Rock Christian where the Jackets will be the home team.

3-3A No. 19 Piggott at No. 7 Osceola

Piggott snuck by Hoxie 42-35 last week with their successful run game averaging 6.7 YPC and 4 TD’s. Osceola (League Title Favor) stomped Harrisburg 54-0 last week. Piggott’s Diamond T offense keeps it in games, but Osceola won last year 26-0.

4-3a No. 8 Mayflower at No. 12 Atkins

Winner likely earns the No. 2 playoff spot and has a wide shot at sharing the league title. Mayflower outright won last year’s title, but Atkins hasn’t put a conference championship under their belt since 2004. Atkins took its first loss last week to Conference Opponent, Danville 26-7. Atkins’ new starting QB has a lot of expectations to live up to, considering the last two QB’s were All-State and All-league honorees. Atkins has many playmakers on its team this year. Mayflower shutout Baptist Prep 37-0 last week, its second straight shutout. Senior playmaker Deon Simmons has been slowed down due to injuries this season. Mayflower’s defense continues to improve behind leader Dylan Burnett and lineman Dylan Wilkerson.

5-3a No. 2 Smackover at No. 42 Genoa Central

No. 2 Smackover only let up 88 yards last week and forced two turnovers against opponent Fouke. Genoa Central booted a FG last week to avoid the shutout against League Contender Prescott. Smackover is a State Contender and likely out-right conference champions.

6-3a No. 32 Lake Village at No. 9 Rison

No. 9 Rison bashed Lake Village last week with a combined 98-28 over the last two years. Lake Village has won its past two league games, winning last week 19-6 against Palestine-Wheatley. Rison hasn’t played since Monday, October 8th. Rison routed McClellan JV 33-0.The game against McClellan JV was scheduled when Episcopal elected to play 8-man football this fall. Rison is looking forward to a likely 10-0 season and league title.
